IT Equipment

As IT equipment can be generally quite expensive, it is good practise to ensure that the right levels of care and safety must be met when using it. This can help keep maintenance costs down, and will create new awareness among your company employees of how to look after the equipment properly. The way in which it is used will also help define what precautions and practises you need to consider when you are using the equipment.

It is a good idea to thoroughly review a product’s manual or instructions before using it, as this will ensure that you will know of any specific risks that may be associated with the product before it is used. Computers for example sometimes have the risk of overheating, which is often due to it either being left on too long or if the fan has not been cleaned for a while. Methods to counteract this would include regular cleaning of the internal fans and making sure that the computer has not been left on for more than 24 hours at a time.

Knowing the risks beforehand is useless without knowing the proper way to implement solutions and safeguards. A good way of putting these safeguards in place successfully is by coming up with a simple and succinct list of steps your employees can follow before, after and during use of a piece of IT equipment. Putting it into simple language will ensure that there will be no ambiguity as to what they are meant to do in the situation.
